The news broke out last week and was
later confirmed by Donaire’s wife Rachel and Carl Moretti, Top Rank’s vice president
of boxing operation.
“We’re no longer under a promotional
contract with Top Rank.” – Rachel Donaire
Top Rank is a Las Vegas based
promotional company who Nonito a 4 division champion worked with for nearly 9
years.
Donaire was previously handled by
Gary Shaw Productions before signing with Top Rank Promotion back in 2008.
He had a very fruitful career under
the Top Rank. He fought in U.S., Philippines, Macau and Puerto Rico.
Nonito’s last ring appearance under the
supervision of Top Rank Promotion was on November in Las Vegas losing his WBO
junior featherweight belt to Jessie Magdaleno via unanimous decision.
After the clash, He immediately demanded
for a rematch but Jessie rejected the offer.
“I don’t need to fight you right now,
I don’t need anything from you, dude…I can get better paydays from other great
potential fighters. There are bigger and better matches than you. You’re old
now, everyone sees it.” – Jessie Magdaleno
Jessie Magdaleno is now set to face
Adeilson Dos Santos on April 22 in California.
Donaire was offered to face Oscar
Valdez this March but they’ve turned it down due to short notice.
“We’re free to come back at anytime. Of course
with (Oscar) Valdez there that’s certainly an option, especially when Nonito
tests the waters again at 126 – Rachel Donaire
This is not the end of the line for Donaire
who registered 37-4 24 knockouts. Surely he will be back. Expect his name to be
in the spotlight again.
