Golovkin scores a knockdown in 4th round of their middleweight title clash in Madison Square Garden |
Gennady “Triple G”
Golovkin survives the toughest fight of his career so far on Saturday night in
Madison Square Garden with thousands in attendance against Daniel Jacobs.
The Kazakhs pride keeps winning streak alive and
improves his professional record to 37-0 with 33 knockouts and unifies his
middleweight title belts (WBA, WBC, IBO and IBF).
Golvokin
won via unanimous decision. Judges Don Trella and Steve Weisfeld scored the
bout 115-112 and Judge Max DeLuca had it 114-113.
“It was a good
fight; He is a very good fighter,” “This was my toughest fight.” – Gennady Golovkin
But
for some who watched the fight in the Garden and some, who just viewed the
clash over their ordered PPV, believed it was a controversial decision and
Jacobs edges Triple G.
Even
Daniel “The Miracle Man” Jacobs who’s the only man to push Triple G in 12 rounds
thought the same way.
“I think I won
the fight, and I think the fans support me,” “I think I won by two rounds at
least. They want the big fight (against Canelo Alvarez), and Daniel Jacobs got
X’d out. I won the fight, and I won the decision, and all I can do is be
gracious in the decision.” – Daniel Jacobs
In
a separate discussion, Golovkin respects Jacobs on being a high-quality fighter
“I respect
Daniel Jacobs, and he did a very good job and clean job,” “Daniel Jacobs is my
favorite fighter—quality, very good fighter after I knocked him down. I respect
his team.” – Gennady Golovkin
#Sportstalk247 had 114-113 in favor
of Golovkin. In my own opinion, nobody got robbed. It was a very close fight.
And in a close fight, nothing is controversial. The 4th round
knockdown (two hard rights) registered by Triple G really made a huge
difference.
Based
on CompuBox Golovkin won the bout based on the numbers. Triple G tossed total
punches of 231/615 (38%) while Jacobs is at 32% 175/541.
I was honestly
astonished on what Jacobs did. He showed that Golovkin is just a human by
pushing the bout to the decision. He went smart, too fast and on his southpaw stance.
This gave Golovkin hard time cracking him.
But I will still stand with my tally, I had Golovkin
with 1 point over him.
The Kazakhstan pride
said that he is open to give Daniel Jacobs a rematch in the future.
Triple G is reserved
for the rest of the year except on December.
A big fight is coming
on way against the Mexican star Canelo Alvarez and a rumored dream fight on
June against Englishman Billy Joe Saunders in Kazakhstan who is also a
middleweight title holder.
