Boxing is back and saved from the dark: Canelo-Golovkin is official on September

Said to be the biggest match since Mayweather-Pacquiao, Canelo vs. Golovkin is officially set on September 16, 2017 (Mexican Independence Day weekend). The fight was announced right after the live sparring session of Canelo Alvarez and Chavez Jr. aired to over a million households.

When Canelo Alvarez was asked by Max Kellerman, “Who do you want to fight next?”, Canelo’s response electrified the fans.

“Golovkin, you are next, my friend.” – Canelo Alvarez

Per source, the most awaited fight has been signed and sealed two weeks ago with Gennady Golovkin’s middleweight title belts at stake. The two will be battling on September 16th for the WBC, WBA, IBO and IBF world middleweight belts.

This is going to be a legit middleweight fight with a limit of 160 pounds and both Canelo and Golovkin will be wearing a traditional 10-ounce boxing gloves.

But per Dela Hoya, a venue is yet to be determine, as a decision hasn’t been made by their team.

"As you can imagine, everyone wants the fight, here in Los Angeles, Dallas, Texas with my friend Jerry Jones. Obviously, Las Vegas, New York has already called. There are several places where people want it, we'll see where this fight fits in perfectly." – Oscar Dela Hoya

No question, this fight will break records and will be far cry from Pacquiao-Mayweather saga. Expect pure action in every beat of a second. Everyone are really thrilled to see this. This is what the world desired to witness and no need to wait for a very long time.

To be honest, Canelo and Oscar knows how to play the game of business. Remember when Canelo turned down Team Golovkin’s offer to make the fight on Cinco de Mayo and vacated his WBC belt? That decision baffled many boxing fans. Canelo afraid of Golovkin? Maybe that’s not the case, it’s all about perfect timing.

Though Canelo was impressive on his last 6 bouts (4 of them were knockouts), that sounds not sufficient, He needs to make an additional solid statement before going for Gennady. He wants the world to see he can fight bigger opponents and that win against Chavez Jr is all they needed. That session with Chavez Jr spiced up Canelo-Golovkin bout. The timing is so right to seal the fight between the two boxing artists.

Golovkin was delighted when he was notified about Canelo’s agreement. Finally, it’s going down. You can see through his eyes that he’s very excited and looking for this fight to happen. He can’t wait for September to come.

Aside from his (Gennady Golovkin) middleweight belts, his remarkable record is also on top of the table (37-0 33 KOs). Will Canelo be his 34th victim? Or will Saul put an L on his professional record?..... anything can happen.

This is going to be a terrific match. Just like what Dela Hoya had promised

“Boxing was on a hiatus. With these fights that you saw tonight, that you’re going to see in September, what you saw with Joshua, boxing is back.” - Oscar Dela Hoya

Dela Hoya is right, the sport was infected by MayPac back in 2015. But it’s done, people moved on from that disaster. Now that Canelo-Golovkin is wrapped, boxing is back and saved from the dark.
