43 year old
Mexican boxing great Juan Manuel Marquez reveals interest to a comeback fight
on June 24th.
As what his
hall of fame instructor Nacho Beristain confirmed last week, JMM will be
fighting in Toluca, Mexico on June 24th, but no opponent yet to be
named.
Per Marquez,
the whole thing goes well on the training camp. Dough, foe and setting are immense
parts of the plan, but health would be the most vital thing to consider for the
comeback.
"I
have discussed June 24, but I have to see about the opponent, the
location, the money - which is ultimately an important part, but first we have
to wait and see how we are," "The preparation is going well, but
we have to see where the location will be, the opponent and if it works
for us." – Juan Manuel Marquez
The four
time division world champion “Dynamita” Marquez (56-7-1 40 knockouts) was last
seen in action inside the boxing ring for over almost three years against Mike
Alvarado. His plan of continuing to fight was spoiled by a knee injury that he
suffered back in 2014.
Last month,
a serious negotiation about fighting Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto flops as the two
fighters didn’t reached an agreement. Cotto wants the fight to be closer at 150
pounds but Marquez refused to go up in weight and insisted to fight in a
welterweight limit if 147 pounds.
Though the
first effort fails, the talk isn’t dead yet. Reportedly the two fighters are
still interested in facing each other. Their promoters are now taking their own
steps on making a great deal for both teams.
JMM is now
doing his works at the Romanza gym with supervision of Nacho Beristain in
preparing for proposed June 24th bout.
