Senate comes first: Pacquiao skips training session for Jeff Horn fight

Sounds like Team Pacquiao isn’t that concerned about their upcoming tour in Brisbane, Australia on July 2nd.

Manny Pacquiao’s official training for the “Battle of Brisbane” was scheduled on Tuesday. But the fighting senator changed the plan. He can’t be found in any corner of the gym as he picked to appear in the inaugural session of the senate instead.

One of Pacquiao’s closed in security Choy Garcia said that he (Pacquiao) is dedicated to his senate responsibilities. The senate session resumed right after a one-month holy week break.

“Besides, he’s been telling us there’s a lot to do vis-a-vis his duties and responsibilities sa Senado. We just arrived from Australia at maraming trabahong naiwan na kailangang balikan, (there’s a lot of things that needs to be done)” - Choy Garcia

Also, assistant trainer Buboy Fernandez couldn’t join the team in a booked training session because per his younger brother, Roger “Haplas” Fernandez, Buboy is in Bicol region serving as an elected town councilor.

“Kailangan kasi mag-meeting pa kami para maplantsa ang training regimen, so, kapag nagsimula na, tuloy-tuloy,” (There is a need for us to meet to iron out the training regimen so that when we start it will be continuing), - Roger “Haplas” Fernandez

If you recall when Pacquiao stayed in Australia last week, in a press conference, he said that he’ll not underestimate Jeff Horn and will take the fight seriously.

Seven-time trainer of the year awardee Freddie Roach sets Pacquiao training schedule at eight weeks before their official fight.

Currently, the hall of fame trainer is in the United States taking a little time off after seizing his first win with his latest pupil Scott Quigg who fought in the undercard of Joshua-Klitschko at the Wembley Stadium in United Kingdom.

Roach will be in Manila on upcoming days and will stay there for 6 straight weeks for the preparation of Pacquiao-Horn battle.
