Pacquiao grabs 61st career win at 40: Retains WBA Belt and Solves “The Problem” Broner

“Life begins at 40” a notion that was popularized by psychologist W.B. Pitkin.

For Pacquiao, the phrase isn’t all about “near death” or aging but it’s just a number and rejoicing a great career at that level of his age.

What we’ve observed last night wasn’t a classical aging Manny Pacquiao but a terrific one like in his 30ish.

He exhibited an excellent game plan. He’s very vigorous, used his jabs, more faints, head movements and velocity to scare-off and overthrow the younger Adrien Broner (29).

“I proved in my last fight against [Lucas] Matthysse and now I proved it again. The Manny Pacquiao journey will still continue,”Pacquiao

Pacquiao has thrown a total of 568 punches and landed 112 (371 of it are jabs). justly, I can’t have any other name on my list who, at 40ish, can drop that much punches in a single 12-round event.

At 40, he looked more conditioned and in a better shape than his last bout against Lucas Matthysse. He stepped in the ring weighing 149 lbs. (gaining 3 more lbs. after the weigh-in).

Manny wore a high level of confidence, and in the early rounds, He is whooshing things in with excitement, looking for stoppage but was careless. A mistake that was adjusted on later rounds.

“I wanted to push more, but my trainer said ‘Don’t be careless. Wait for him, counter,’ and that’s what I did.”Pacquiao

It was a one-sided victory for the living HOF with official scores of 116-112 (Tim Cheatham/Glenn Feldman) and 117-111 (Dave Moretti). Though, SPORTSTALK247 had it 118-110 all in favor of, of course……. Pacman.

Pacquiao’s boxing career won’t end here. He’s still open for any possible opponents and eyeing a rematch against the biggest fish in the market, Floyd Mayweather (if he plans to come out of retirement) who Pacquiao had called in a post-fight interview.

“Tell [Floyd] to come back to the ring and we will fight,”; “I’m willing to fight again with Floyd Mayweather if he’s willing to come back to boxing.”Pacquiao

Discussing Adrien Broner’s performance last night, it’s a pure disappointment. I’ve never imagined a 4-division world champion and in his prime, drops a total of 50 punches and connected just one in a championship round.

Broner avoided to take part of captivating scenes. This was the biggest fight of his career, but he failed to show up.

In an interview with Jim Gray, he furiously said that he thought that he did enough and won the fight.

“I beat him, when the fight was over. It was one of the most laughable lines of the night, given his paucity of punches”. He added, “I clearly won the last seven.”Adrien Broner

Overall, this was a good show. Despite less engagement, we were entertained by a 40-year-old legend who had showcased an admirable performance.
