Daniel Cormier's fantasy of a blockbuster heavyweight bang with Lesnar won't take place after the former NCAA wrestling champion chooses to retire as a mix martial artist. This was confirmed by UFC president Dana White (to ESPN).
"He told me he’s done. He’s retired (Lesnar)" – Dana White
With that decision, his MMA record draws to 5-3 with 1 NC (two successful title defenses).
The 41 year old Brock Lesnar hasn’t fought inside the octagon since UFC 200 in July 2016 against Mark Hunt who he have won via unanimous decision.
But the result was reversed into a NO CONTEST after Lesnar was tested positive for a banned substance "clomiphene".
Due to that event, the US Anti-Doping Agency who administers UFC drug-testing program, have imposed a one year suspension to Lesnar and also was removed from their testing pool.
The charges he received (from USADA) is absolutely affecting his octagon return. But I guess his commitment to WWE also played a major role.
His upcoming appearances (in WWE) signifies his obligation to the organization.
"The Beast" has been booked multiple times this year including WWE’s third coming in Saudi Arabia in June.
UFC already had a discussion on booking a heavyweight title fight between Lesnar and Cormier, but following Lesnar’s departure from the sport, the organization have shifted its interest, and now, it has been reported that a Cormier-Miocic 2 is in works and will be held on August 17th in Anaheim California.
