Canelo Alvarez Tops Usyk, Crawford and Lomachenko As The “Best Boxer” In The World By ABC

Another achievement was presented to Mexico’s Canelo Alvarez after being baptized as the “Best Boxer” in 27th edition of ESPY’s awards night yesterday in Los Angeles.

The nominees for the best boxer were Alvarez, Crawford, Lomachenko and Usyk.

Canelo is truly having a prodigious home run. After bagging titles in different divisions, signing a money-spinning deal with DAZN, and now this, gaining a respect worldwide.

"I want to thank the ESPY Awards for having nominated me as best boxer of the year," "And more than anything I want to thank the fans for allowing me to win. I am very thankful. Thank you, and we will be working toward even more. God willing, we will be working towards more, and we will keep making the best fights, and I will keep being the best boxer. Thank you to everyone. Thank you to my fans. Thank you to all the people at the ESPYs. – Canelo Alvarez

Oscar De La Hoya, who handles Canelo and also collected the same awards in 1999 and 2006, cheered Alvarez for his accomplishment.

"People all around the world are acknowledging what we have been saying for years: Canelo Alvarez is the best boxer in the world," "Aside from being the king of the middleweight division, Canelo is also the biggest star in boxing. He embodies a perfect mix of strength, skill, courage and marketability that has made him into a breakout star. On behalf of everyone at Golden Boy, we thank the ESPY Awards. Congratulations, champ!" – Oscar De La Hoya

In history, the first ever boxer who won this prominent award was Riddick Bowie back in 1993. And then in 2007, it was changed to “Best Fighter” (both MMA and Boxers are nominated in this category). But this year, the body decided to split it into two, Best MMA fighter and Best Boxer awards.
