Mikey Garcia plans to move up weight, could face Terrence Crawford in welterweight

WBC lightweight champion Mikey Garcia (36-0 30 KOs) have plans in moving up weight by the end of 2017 or early of 2018 in pursue of capturing fourth division title (junior welterweight).

Garcia collected his 3rd divisional belt after dispatching Dejan Zlaticanin via 3rd round knockout last January.

In moving up, there’s a possibility that Garcia could meet junior welterweight top contender Terrence Crawford (30-0 21 KOs) who currently holds WBO and WBC belts.

When Garcia was asked about the chance of facing Crawford, he sees no problem about it, he’s into it.

"Of course [I would want fight him], he is the man in that division. If at any point I decide to make the leap [to 140-pounds] and he is there - I am interested. He's a fighter with good reach, height, changes his guard, so it would be a good fight. I see a lot of studying in the first half [of the contest], but the second half would have more action in the fight," – Mickey Garcia

The two fighters had met during their amateur days and Garcia recalls the clash.

"I remember he was up like 3 or 4 points in the first round right away and after that, he just ran around the whole time...we made a mistake of following him...he very easily outpointed me...amateurs is one thing compared to the pros," - Mickey Garcia

Mikey Garcia is focused in collecting more world titles and not on beating Floyd Mayweather’s unbeaten record 49-0.
"No [that's not a focus for me]. My goal is not to achieve a certain number of victories in order to retire. My objective is to add world titles and then go up to another division and start again by adding more titles, and continue doing this for as far as I can," - Mickey Garcia
