Unofficial Numbers: Golovkin-Jacobs PPV buys drew 130k-150k

Gennady Golovkin unifies welterweight title belts
Gennady Golvokin’s win against “Miracle Man” Daniel Jacobs reportedly drew 150,000 buys.

According to Lance Pugmire of LA Times, the HBO PPV headliner on Saturday night buys ranges from 130,000 – 150,000 only.

“Early pay per view report shows GGG Boxing – Daniel Jacobs fight had buys ranging from 130k to 150k, according to industry source,” – Pugmire on Twitter

The report is still off-the-record as HBO hasn’t announced the official numbers yet. This was Gennady Golovkin’s second appearance on HBO pay-per-view draw.

If this is true, this would equal HBO PPV income on Golovkin-Lemieux back in 2015 (150,000).

The knockout artist from Kazakhstan is boxing’s next big thing. He sells tickets and put asses on the seats. Gennady has the talent. He’s a true power puncher. You’ve got to love his hooks, jabs and body shots. He knocks out 33 of all of his opponents.

We know gate revenue at @TheGarden was $3.7 million, higher than $2 million for Lemieux, that @GGGBoxing merchandise, sponsors also higher – Lance Pugmire

But people aren’t eager to pay to see him fight? People aren’t willing to order PPV to see him fight?

Based from the reported numbers, #Sportstalk247 isn’t yet convinced that Triple G is the next big star when it comes to pay-per-view sales.

It’s not all about the capacity. It’s not all about the performance. It’s not all about knocking people out. It’s not all about getting judges’ decision to take home the victory.

One of the most vital factors is that you know how to sell your self to the public. You need to have a complete package. Be a salesman and convince everyone.

Here’s a short statement from Floyd Mayweather about pay-per-view sales.

“It takes more than just being able to fight. It takes more than that. You have to have a certain aura about yourself, a certain charisma about yourself, a certain sales pitch about yourself; it takes a total package. The thing is, as far as boxing, it's all about taking risks and taking chances. I did it. I took risks.” – Floyd Mayweather Jr
HBO’s next PPV box office will feature a clash of Mexican star’s Canelo Alvarez and Chavez Jr on May 6th, a Cinco de Mayo especial.
