Jon Jones vs Brock Lesnar: This upcoming massive heavyweight war may be possible to take place by 2018

After triumphantly reclaiming his light heavyweight belt (finally after two long years), Jon Jones got a pretty big agenda on his mind immediately after his stint at UFC 214 in California.

During a post-fight interview, which was broadcasted live via pay-per-view, Jones took up the microphone and called out WWE star and former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar.

“Brock Lesnar, if you want to know what it feels like to get your ass kicked by a guy who weighs 40 pounds less than you, meet me in the octagon,” Jon Jones

In a separate interview by Associated Press, Brock Lesnar had responded to Jones’ calling

“Be careful on what you wish for young man.”

For weeks, the Lesnar-Jones mega heavyweight clash were in talks, but on where or to whom did it came from (the idea), no one knows even Jon Jones.

Jones have plenty of options on his plate, on who he’ll be facing next. There’s an Alexander Gustafsson rematch, meeting at halfway with Cain Velasquez, a 200 plus pounds battle with wrestling super star, Brock Lesnar and before I forgot, last on the list, Stipe Miocic, the current heavyweight title holder.

But on why Jones picking Brock Lesnar amongst the list, his explanation does make sense.

“I feel like if I was to take a fight at heavyweight, it would be against a person who I felt and my coaches felt would be a perfect matchup for me. Right now, Stipe (Miocic) is looking extremely impressive and I believe when you get an extremely talented big guy versus and extremely talented little guy, the cards are working in his favor. At the same time, I fear no man. But I strike for a reason when I strike and I feel like right now Stipe is relatively unknown to general public. So, it wouldn’t be a real super fight in my opinion. I feel like the MMA and fans would be really don’t know who he (Miocic) is, with all due respect to him. So, if I am going to sacrifice being a smaller guy, I think that stylistically Brock Lesnar would be a fight that makes way more sense and the payday would be tremendous! Plus, what it would do for our sport would be tremendous. It would have much greater effect (than a fight with Miocic). So, for those reasons, a Brock Lesnar fight just make way more sense for me.” Jon Jones

A heavyweight clash between the two will truly be a massive one. Fans around the sporting world surely be insane to see this contest. All UFC PPV records will be shattered by this enormous episode.

Jones was right, this is going to be very beneficial not only for the sport but also for the organization as it will help add another solid print into the ground.

On Brock Lesnar’s availability

Due to suspension in relation to his bout with Mark Hunt on UFC 200, Lesnar will be eligible to fight by early quarter of 2018, that is only if he decided to re-enter the testing pool today and ends his retirement (the former heavyweight champ still has 6 months remaining for the suspension).

And counting some months and additional number of weeks for the promotion and preparation, this fight could be made by around July next year.

For Dana White who once said that the organization is very strict about their policies when it comes to weight classes, this time, I don’t think he will have a reason to nod his head and say “NO” to light heavyweight champ’s request.

There’s no other answer but “yes”.
